Find out why bats are nature’s best pesticide and how they can prevent another global pandemic. Filmmaker Kristin Tièche and bat conservation scientist Dr. Winifred Frick will be available for Q&A. Wed. July 31, 7 to 8 p.m. Wildlife in Your Neighborhood. Burlingame Community Center, Elm Room, 850 Burlingame Ave., Burlingame. When deer, a coyote and or a mountain lion appears in your yard, what should you do? Ashley Kinney, Wildlife Rehabilitation Manager for the Peninsula Humane Society and SPCA, will tell stories of wild animals in need, what happens to them when PHS admits them to its rehabilitation hospital and how we can peacefully coexist with our wild neighbors. Free, but pre-registration is required.
Thurs. Oct. 10, 7 to 8 p.m. on Zoom. Two expert members of the SFO sustainability team will discuss the remarkable sustainability efforts the airport is making, as well as the ways they are helping airlines meet their goals and what passengers can do to fly more sustainably. One interesting fact is that all 54 airlines that fly out of SFO are powered by fuel that contains up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel made from plant and animal materials, which reduce carbon emissions by up to 80%. How do you find the most sustainable flights? Google Flights provides that info.

Matt Biggar, Ph.D., a place-based collaboration consultant, researcher and writer, will offer guidance on how we can change systems locally and regionally to support living connected to place and advance collective well-being. There is no charge, but pre-registration is required.
