The Citizens Environmental Council is recruiting San Mateo County residents to join our Board of Directors. Our board is dedicated to championing regional sustainability through education, advocacy of environmental and climate policies, and empowering young environmental leaders in San Mateo County. By joining this group, you will help create initiatives that educate and drive local action to address critical environmental issues.
You do not need prior board experience, but you must have a passion for the environment! Interested? Fill out our online application
Experience in any of these other areas would be helpful, but is not required: posting web content and using WordPress, social media, marketing and communications, and creating short videos. We are also eager to increase our board’s diversity to match our county’s diversity. If you are interested or know someone who would be a great fit, let us know.

The Role of the Board
The CEC Board focuses on program content, strategic oversight and financial sustainability of the organization. Board Members fulfill these responsibilities by preparing for and attending monthly board meetings, participating on subcommittees or task forces, attending key CEC events, and generously sharing network connections, time and resources.

Skills We’re Seeking
You do not need to be an experienced board member. Since we closely monitor sustainability efforts in Burlingame, we prefer board members who live in or near that city. We are seeking individuals who have participated in our events or campaigns and can contribute one or more of the following: valuable networks, social media or marketing and communication skills, fundraising experience, writing ability, business leadership, financial management expertise, governance knowledge and/or a background in city or county functions. Most importantly, effective board members are those who enjoy being advocates for CEC; are resourceful, optimistic, dependable; and have a passion for the environment.
