Frustrated by road closures on El Camino Real due to tree removal? Wondering about the grand plan for this state highway?
These PowerPoint presentations from the Community Meeting we hosted on March 5 offer some helpful information:
- Mayor Michael Brownrigg’s presentation here explains priorities that went into planning the project from 2017 to 2025.
- The California Department of Transportation’s (Caltrans’) presentation here gives an overview of the project, the construction timeline through 2029 and a summary of how traffic will be diverted during different phases. Slide 19 lists where to find information about the project on a Caltrans website. Slide 20 shows a couple of conceptions of what the completed project will look like. More visualizations are available at https://ecralternatives.com/design/.
Caltrans’ public information officer for our region, Jeneann Crawford, offers these tips for staying on top of lane closures and traffic advisories:
- Those who would like to sign up for email traffic advisories can use this link: Notifications about the El Camino Real project in San Mateo County.
- Residents can also find that link, as well as a list of recent advisories and other project information, on this page: 82 El Camino Real Roadway Renewal | Caltrans.
- You can find information by searching for #ECRRoadwayRenewal on Caltrans’ social media channels. Click on each to access them: Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, X (formerly Twitter)
The City of Burlingame also sends out advisories in its free weekly newsletter. To subscribe, go here.
