How would you like to receive hands-on training about techniques for sustainable gardening from Filoli gardeners? Come to a free program on Saturday, May 3, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Filoli Historic House and Garden in Woodside. Entry to Filoli will be free, and volunteers will be welcome to stay afterward to tour the house and garden. You will work side by side with Filoli Horticulture Team members to weed and mulch the Formal Garden and prepare beds for summer. Volunteers will also learn how to choose sustainable plants and techniques for maintaining a water-wise garden.

You’re invited to free program on Thursday, May 15, to learn how the Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST) protects and cares for open space on the Peninsula and in the South Bay and how you can get involved. The presentation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Burlingame Community Center, 850 Burlingame Ave., in Burlingame. There is no charge for admission, but registration is requested at https://PreserveOpenSpace.
This program will feature Walter Moore, immediate past president and current advisor to POST. As president from 2011 to 2025, he oversaw growth of POST-protected land from about 50,000 acres to nearly 90,000 acres. He will discuss POST’s successful model for land protection and the organization’s ongoing stewardship of the San Vicente Redwoods, a 9,000-acre home to old-growth redwoods that POST is restoring after the CZU Wildfire.

CEC invites you to a family-friendly nature walk along San Francisco Bay. We’ll be picking up trash (plogging) as we go, so please bring gloves and a bucket if possible. CEC will provide free trash pickup kits, including grabbers and gloves, for kids. Free. No pre-registration is required.
